Health Minister still considering ceding Malaysia’s sovereignty to the World Health Organization

Time is running out for Malaysia to oppose these draconian regulations

Can Dr Zaliha Mustafa be trusted with safeguarding Malaysia’s sovereignty?

Malaysia’s Minister of Health Dr Zaliha Mustafa said last week, no decision has been made by the government to hand over sovereign powers to the World Health Organization (WHO). Dr Zaliha said Malaysia is still negotiating the WHO on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response (WHO CA+) and amendments to the International Health Regulations (IHR 2005).

However, as far as it is understood, all negotiations took place last year, so it is not clear what negotiations Dr Zaliha is actually referring to.

Dr Zaliha confirmed that no decision had been made on this important issue. The government has until December 1 to oppose the new regulations, or Malaysia’s sovereignty over making decisions in regards to health issues will be put into the hands of the WHO Director General.

Details of what the new regulations would mean to government were outlines by British MP Andrew Bridgen in the British Parliament, earlier this week.

It is a mystery why Dr Zaliha would be seriously considering ceding these powers to an unelected body.
